Nipsey Hussle (1985 – 2019), born Ermias Asghedom, was an American rapper, entrepreneur, and activist who left a lasting impact on hip-hop and his community. Emerging in the 2000s with his Bullets Ain’t Got No Name mixtape series, he gained recognition for his independent approach to music. His debut album, Victory Lap (2018), received critical acclaim and a Grammy nomination, while his posthumous releases won two Grammy Awards.
Beyond music, Hussle was dedicated to economic empowerment in South Los Angeles. He founded Marathon Clothing, promoted real estate investment, and launched Vector 90, a co-working space for Black entrepreneurs. His innovative business strategies, such as selling limited-edition mixtapes for $100 each, earned him industry respect.
Tragically, he was shot and killed outside his store in 2019. His death was widely mourned, and his contributions to music, business, and social activism were honored with a posthumous Grammy and a Los Angeles intersection named in his memory.
Hussle’s legacy continues as an artist and visionary, remembered for his entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to uplifting his community.
