The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be.
Anne Frank (1929 – 1945) was a Jewish girl who became one of the most famous victims of the Holocaust. She documented her life in hiding during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands in The Diary of a Young Girl, one of the world's most widely read books.

Born in Frankfurt, she moved with her family to Amsterdam in 1934 to escape Nazi persecution. When the Germans occupied the Netherlands in 1940, restrictions on Jews increased. In 1942, to avoid deportation, her family hid in a secret annex above her father Otto’s office. For two years, she kept a diary, describing life in confinement.

In August 1944, the annex was raided, and the family was sent to Auschwitz. Later, Anne and her sister were moved to Bergen-Belsen, where both died of typhus in early 1945.
